Lusca

Artwork created for the label design of a collaboration beer made by Braukraft Munich and Pirate Brew Berlin. This was inspired by Caribbean folklore where “Lusca” was a sea monster said to have its layer deep within the abyssal blue holes of the Caribbean seas, praying on those pirate ships that had the misfortune of crossing its path. Some legends say that the creature was half octopus, half something else, while others say it’s more of an evil spirit. Since the beer for which this was going to be used was a strawberry cream ale, I decided to adapt the creature accordingly, and make it attack a cog as a symbol of the other brewery. Appropriate as they might be for strawberries and tropical waters, this is one of the very few artworks in which I adopted such lively colors.
