Midnight Mantra

Artwork created for the label design of one of my Hopsylvania brews that was made in collaboration with Higgins Ale Works using cacao nibs from Truly Craft Chocolate and coffee beans from Café Blá.

Almost always looking to Nature for inspiration, I knew that I wanted to feature something spellbinding for this artwork to match the beer name. This got me thinking of what magician, ecologist, and philosopher David Abram had to say in “The Spell of the Sensuous”, namely how we as humans have distanced ourselves from the magic of Nature. So from all the enchanting natural experiences I’ve had, I had to look no further than the awe-inspiring sight of fireflies piercing the darkness with their bioluminescent bursts, like tens of tiny shooting stars glowing and shimmering above meadows.

Having deliberately decided to launch this product during the last full moon of the year, this was yet another moment, this time one of celestial magic, that I wanted to capture in the artwork. As such, I made all of them, moon and fireflies alike, burst out of Nature’s very own spellbook.
